Afghan authorities have launched the work for the construction of three water supply projects in western Afghanistan's Ghor province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Friday.

The three networks, which cost over 179,000 U.S. dollars, could provide clean water to 1,500 families in this province, where residents have been suffering from years of droughts and severe water shortages, the news agency added.

The projects will also help local farmers irrigate hundreds of acres of farmland, the report added.

Afghanistan has endured years of drought, and even residents of major cities, including the capital Kabul, have faced acute shortages of drinking water over the past several years.
